A fish originating from Lake Malawi and is therefore more suitable for the cichlid aquarium. Also, because of its spicy character they are better held with larger, more resistant fish.
This well known fish in the aquarium is approximately 10 cm long. Both females and younger animals are golden yellow with dark stripes. The dominant males, however, are almost the opposite: black white and yellow stripes to blue white shiny stripes. Suppressed males often fade pattern to look like females. This way, one never knows quite sure whether you have a male or a female.
Naturally they have plant food on the menu but also mysis, krill, brine shrimp and dry foods may well be given. Soft leaved plants they will certainly start to eat. At a temperature of 23-26 degrees and a pH of 7,5-8.5 you'll enjoy the interesting behavior of these animals to the full.
